Neurodiversity Matters

Neurodiversity-Affirming Training and Support

Neurodiversity refers to the natural diversity of our brains which influences how we process the world around us. We offer training, support and resources for neurodiversity from a strengths-based perspective facilitating greater self-awareness, self-compassion, self-advocacy and self-empowerment.

  • Neurodiversity Training for Families, Schools and Workplaces
  • Creating Neuroinclusive Teams and Communities
  • Strengthening Emotional Wellbeing for Autism and ADHD
  • Practical Tools for Communication, Confidence and Connection
  • Celebrate Difference, Strengths and Authentic Identity

Understanding neurodiversity enables us to know, accept and appreciate how we process information, what we feel and how we can meet our needs in ways that benefit ourselves and those around us. Reducing stigma and misunderstanding around neurodiversity is key to unlocking our strengths, perspectives and potential. Here at Arise and Flow, we challenge the concepts of disablement, deficit and disorder that exist around neurodiversity. We are differently-abled and our challenges can be overcome by changing the environment around us to meet the needs of diverse brains so we can be fully who we are and bring to the world our unique gifts and talents.
It is estimated 20% of people have one or more neurodivergent conditions shown in the diagram.

High Sensitivity - It is estimated that 20% of us are Highly Sensitive and we are more compassionate and creative, value deep connection and are highly perceptive and intuitive. Highly Sensitive People have a greater depth of information processing for a richer inner world, increased empathy for others and feel their emotions more intensely. They have heightened awareness of changes in their environment and in other people's emotions and a greater chance of becoming overstimulated by sensory input for example large crowds, bright lights and loud noises.

High Learning Potential (HLP) (giftedness) - These are people with a high potential to excel with the right support: they have high intelligence and reasoning skills, often with a love of learning and show high creativity and motivation in areas of interest. They are curious, compassionate with a strong sense of justice, emotionally sensitive, energetic, with a wide range of interests, demonstrating perseverance and commitment. Estimates for people with HLP range from 2-5%. High Learning Potential often accompanies other forms of neurodiversity.

Lorraine's Story:

"In order to better help and support my own children and other children in my teaching work, I researched and learnt about Neurodiversity. I was fascinated by the different ways of thinking and processing of the human brain leading me to gain a Post-Graduate Certificate in Autism. I continued my studies into ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and other neurodiverse conditions. I learnt about High Sensitivity and High Learning Potential which helped me understand myself, my children and other family members more. I explored the neuroscience of how trauma informed practice is vital for supporting our differences and opening the door to self-compassion, self-awareness, self-connection and, importantly, self-trust. I am passionate about bringing Social and Emotional Well-Being , Resilience, Self-Compassion, Trust, Communication Skills and Living with Flow to neurodivergent people. We have gifts and talents, strengths and creativity that our families, our work and our world need. It is time to proudly embrace who we are, celebrate our differences and compassionately collaborate to make our society fully inclusive and equitable for all."
